Morgan Ashkenazy (b. 1992) is a director working across new opera, fashion, and performance-based worldbuilding.
In 2024 she founded The Department of Public Feeling, a borderless studio that produces large scale music theater across creatives, communities and disciplines. In 2025 it was endorsed by the Gran Teatre del Liceu.
Her practice develops “explosive empathies”- or staging the nonhuman at the same level as the human, in addition to social dramaturgies that stage the coming together of people as a way of rehearsing society.
She has worked in assistant and artistic capacities at the National Stary Theatre in Kraków, Theater Magdeburg, New Opera Festival Buenos Aires, The Lithuanian National Opera and Academy’s New Music Initiative, Staatstheater Heidelberg alongside independent work and collaborations.
